Toho's anchor monster and my personal favorite has changed over the years, notably doubling in size by 1991. Godzilla's estimated 66,000 tons exceeds the weight of the battleship Missouri (45,000 tons) which accepted Japan's surrender in World War II on September 2, 1945. Godzilla's first appearence is a huge allegory to United States' use of the atomic bomb in WWII, notice the scenes of massive destruction and radiation victims. Later films would carry other undertones: Godzilla vs the Smog Monster addressed pollution during a time it was rampant in Japan, both the "Minya" (baby Godzilla 1967 - 1969) films vaguely address active parenting, and Mothra vs Godzilla portrays greedy businessmen who care nothing for right or wrong.
Godzilla has also changed appearence over the years, from 1954 - 1975 suits were constructed individually, creating slightly different features each time. For Godzilla 1984 and following films molds were used to produce suits, resulting in a more standard form. My only disenchantment with the latest Toho version is those giant pectoral muscles, besides that the incarnation is excellent.

MOTHRA
|
Mothra is a very pacifistic monster, engaging in combat when necessary and causing damage by accident. (Its rather difficult for a 22,000 ton caterpillar not to crunch something) She has done rather well, succumbing a single time in combat against Godzilla while overcoming the King of Monsters on two occasions. Mechagodzilla has defeated his template twice as well but Godzilla returned both times and made him pay for it.
The "Twin Fairies" are of paricular concern for the giant moth, it will go to great lengths ensuring their welfare. In the Godzilla series the relationship is very sketchy though they are granted powers by "The Gods of Goodness and Light." Among these powers is telepathy through which they are able to speak with Mothra.
